The term haptic relates to the sense of touch and comes from the Greek 'haptikos' meaning 'able to touch or grasp'. Haptic advertising is therefore advertising that can be touched, such as promotional products or gifts. As the material of products always plays a major role here, promotional products should be pleasant to handle. Haptic perception is the process of actively recognising the size, form, surface, weight, etc. of an object through touch. Haptic advertising is three-dimensional and achieves a more intensive effect than two-dimensional advertising media such as television commercials.
Cotton fabrics that weigh more than 260 g/m² are called heavyweight cotton. This quality of fabric is usually used for textile promotional products and advertising media that are more demanding in terms of durability, e.g. workwear or outdoor gear.
The HKS is a colour system which contains 120 spot colours and 3250 tones for coated and uncoated paper. Their purpose is to ensure the predictable reproduction and communication of certain colour nuances within the graphics industry.
HKS is an abbreviation for the names of three German colour manufacturers: Hostmann-Steinberg Druckfarben, Kast + Ehinger Druckfarben, and H. Schmincke & Co.
HKS colours can be reproduced, e.g. in offset printing, using a special ink (industrially pre-mixed or printer-mixed) or (with approximate colour matches) using the predefined colour-mixing ratios for the printing inks; cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK).
Hot-stamping refers to a method in which type or designs in the form of a relief die are impressed with heat and pressure through metallic or pigmented film onto the surface material of a promotional product or gift. Hot-stamping is particularly suited to promotional products and giveaways that are made of materials that can resist the pressure and be formed by the hot printing plate (e.g. leather, plastics, etc.). The heat of the stamp, which can be made of either steel, brass or die-cast, temporarily liquefies the ink and leaves a coloured imprint on the stamping surface of the promotional product.
The wide range of available metallic and pigmented films, in countless colour and gloss variations, allows for a highly decorative finish. Hot-stamping without the film is referred to as blind embossing and is especially popular on promotional products and giveaways that are made of leather.
